"my kids don't go to church"

Updated: Oct 29, 2024

We are listening.

What breaks the hearts of Gen X, boomers and surely others? That statement right there:

"My kids (or grandkids) don't go to church."

We are listening.

Listening sessions and panels with young people - what should the church of tomorrow look like?

We are hearing things (so far) like -

  • We don't want to go to church we want to be the church

  • We want authenticy - real community that checks on each other

  • Where is the fun and the play? We used to play as kids and as adults, there is no play

  • Where is the diversity? And inclusion?

Spiritual entrepreneurs - the body of Christ - we can do better. Jesus loves his bride. We don't go to the bride, we ARE the bride.

This week my community of lake lovers joined in joyously for three days to clean up the lake. We hopped into strangers' boats, put on gloves, rode to coves, waded in waters and pulled trash. We met new friends. We had free lunch. We rejoiced in the giant objects (a water heater!) we found as we liberated them from our playground.

The mission - clean up our waters.

The community - fellow lake lovers, all ages and backgrounds.

If we had added worship - maybe prayers of gratitude and a psalm read out loud about God's abundantly beautiful creation and a spoken commitment to care for nature better - and a regular rhythm of gathering, then the Mystery of Christ would have been revealed. Church.

The church of tomorrow. That's all it takes.

Mission + Community + Worship in a regular rhythm, started by you, the spark.
